Surah Al-Hijr: Arabic, Transliteration and Translation
Surah Al-Hijr is chapter 15 of the Holy Quran; it has 99 verses and is a Meccan surah. Below you can read the whole surah verse by verse with the Arabic text, Latin transliteration and English translation.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
الٓر ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَقُرْءَانٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ﴿1﴾
Alif-Laaam-Raa; tilka Aayaatul Kitaabi wa Qur-aa-nim Mubeen
1.Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an.
رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ مُسْلِمِينَ﴿2﴾
Rubamaa yawaddul lazeena kafaroo law kaanoo muslimeen
2.Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.
ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا۟ وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ وَيُلْهِهِمُ ٱلْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ﴿3﴾
Zarhum yaakuloo wa tatamatta'oo wa yulhihimul amalu fasawfa ya'lamoon
3.Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know.
وَمَآ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌۭ مَّعْلُومٌۭ﴿4﴾
Wa maaa ahlaknaa min qaryatin illaa wa lahaa kitaabum ma'loom
4.And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree.
مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ﴿5﴾
Maa tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahaa wa maa yastaakhiroon
5.No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter.
وَقَالُوا۟ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِى نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌۭ﴿6﴾
Wa qaaloo yaaa aiyuhal lazee nuzzila 'alaihiz Zikru innaka lamajnoon
6.And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad.
لَّوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ﴿7﴾
Law maa taateenaa bil malaaa'ikati in kunta minas saadiqeen
7.Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?"
مَا نُنَزِّلُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوٓا۟ إِذًۭا مُّنظَرِينَ﴿8﴾
Maa nunazzilul malaaa'i kata illaa bilhaqqi wa maa kaanooo izam munzareen
8.We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved.
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَٰفِظُونَ﴿9﴾
Innaa Nahnu nazalnaz Zikra wa Innaa lahoo lahaa fizoon
9.Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian.
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِى شِيَعِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿10﴾
Wa laqad arsalnaa min qablika fee shiya'il awwaleen
10.And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples.
وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ﴿11﴾
Wa maa yaateehim mir Rasoolin illaa kaanoo bihee yastahzi'oon
11.And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him.
كَذَٰلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُۥ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ﴿12﴾
kazaalika naslukuhoo fee quloobil mujrimeen
12.Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals.
لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۖ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿13﴾
Laa yu'minoona bihee wa qad khalat sunnatul awwaleen
13.They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples.
وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًۭا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَظَلُّوا۟ فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ﴿14﴾
Wa law fatahnaa 'alaihim baabam minas samaaa'i fazaloo feehi ya'rujoon
14.And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend,
لَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَٰرُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌۭ مَّسْحُورُونَ﴿15﴾
Laqaaloo innamaa sukkirat absaarunaa bal nahnu qawmum mashooroon
15.They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic."
وَلَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ بُرُوجًۭا وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا لِلنَّٰظِرِينَ﴿16﴾
Wa laqad ja'alnaa fissamaaa'i buroojanw wa zaiyannaahaa linnaazireen
16.And We have placed within the heaven great stars and have beautified it for the observers.
وَحَفِظْنَٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْطَٰنٍۢ رَّجِيمٍ﴿17﴾
Wa hafiznaahaa min kulli Shaitaanir rajeem
17.And We have protected it from every devil expelled [from the mercy of Allah]
إِلَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَرَقَ ٱلسَّمْعَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ﴿18﴾
Illaa manis taraqas sam'a fa atba'ahoo shihaabum mubeen
18.Except one who steals a hearing and is pursued by a clear burning flame.
وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ مَّوْزُونٍۢ﴿19﴾
Wal arda madadnaahaa wa alqainaa feehaa rawaasiya wa ambatnaa feehaa min kulli shai'im mawzoon
19.And the earth - We have spread it and cast therein firmly set mountains and caused to grow therein [something] of every well-balanced thing.
وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَٰيِشَ وَمَن لَّسْتُمْ لَهُۥ بِرَٰزِقِينَ﴿20﴾
Wa ja'alnaa lakum feehaa ma'aayisha wa mal lastum lahoo biraaziqeen
20.And We have made for you therein means of living and [for] those for whom you are not providers.
وَإِن مِّن شَىْءٍ إِلَّا عِندَنَا خَزَآئِنُهُۥ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِقَدَرٍۢ مَّعْلُومٍۢ﴿21﴾
Wa im min shai'in illaa 'indanaa khazaaa 'inuhoo wa maa nunazziluhooo illaa biqadarim ma'loom
21.And there is not a thing but that with Us are its depositories, and We do not send it down except according to a known measure.
وَأَرْسَلْنَا ٱلرِّيَٰحَ لَوَٰقِحَ فَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۭ فَأَسْقَيْنَٰكُمُوهُ وَمَآ أَنتُمْ لَهُۥ بِخَٰزِنِينَ﴿22﴾
Wa arsalnar riyaaha la waaqiha fa anzalnaa minas samaaa'i maaa'an fa asqai naakumoohu wa maaa antum lahoo bikhaazineen
22.And We have sent the fertilizing winds and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ﴿23﴾
Wa innnaa la nahnu nuhyee wa numeetu wa nahnul waarisoon
23.And indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritor.
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَـْٔخِرِينَ﴿24﴾
Wa la qad 'alimnal mustaqdimeena minkum wa laqad 'alimnal mustaakhireen
24.And We have already known the preceding [generations] among you, and We have already known the later [ones to come].
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌۭ﴿25﴾
Wa inna Rabbaka Huwa yahshuruhum; innahoo Hakeem 'Aleem
25.And indeed, your Lord will gather them; indeed, He is Wise and Knowing.
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍۢ مِّنْ حَمَإٍۢ مَّسْنُونٍۢ﴿26﴾
Wa laqad khalaqnal insaana min salsaalim min hama im masnoon
26.And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud.
وَٱلْجَآنَّ خَلَقْنَٰهُ مِن قَبْلُ مِن نَّارِ ٱلسَّمُومِ﴿27﴾
Waljaaanna khalaqnaahu min qablu min naaris samoom
27.And the jinn We created before from scorching fire.
وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًۭا مِّن صَلْصَٰلٍۢ مِّنْ حَمَإٍۢ مَّسْنُونٍۢ﴿28﴾
Wa iz qaala Rabbuka lilmalaaa' ikati innee khaaliqum basharam min salsaalim min hama im masnoon
28.And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud.
فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُۥ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِى فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَٰجِدِينَ﴿29﴾
Fa izaa sawwaituhoo wa nafakhtu feehi mir roohee faqa'oo lahoo saajideen
29.And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."
فَسَجَدَ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ﴿30﴾
Fasajadal malaaa'ikatu kulluhum ajma'oon
30.So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,
إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ﴿31﴾
Illaaa ibleesa abaaa ai yakoona ma'as saajideen
31.Except Iblees, he refused to be with those who prostrated.
قَالَ يَٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ﴿32﴾
Qaala yaaa Ibleesu maa laka allaa takoona ma'as saajideen
32.[Allah] said, O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?"
قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍۢ مِّنْ حَمَإٍۢ مَّسْنُونٍۢ﴿33﴾
Qaala lam akul li asjuda libasharin khalaqtahoo min salsaalim min hama im masnoon
33.He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud."
قَالَ فَٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌۭ﴿34﴾
Qaala fakhruj minhaa fa innaka rajeem
34.[Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled.
وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ ٱللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ﴿35﴾
Wa inna 'alikal la'nata ilaa Yawmid Deen
35.And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense."
قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ﴿36﴾
Qaala Rabbi fa anzirneee ilaa Yawmi yub'asoon
36.He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."
قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ﴿37﴾
Qaala fa innaka minal munzareen
37.[Allah] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved
إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْوَقْتِ ٱلْمَعْلُومِ﴿38﴾
Ilaa Yawmil waqtil ma'loom
38.Until the Day of the time well-known."
قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿39﴾
Qaala Rabbi bimaaa aghwaitanee la uzayyinaana lahum fil ardi wa la ughwiyan nahum ajma'een
39.[Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all
إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ﴿40﴾
Illaa 'ibaadaka minhumul mukhlaseen
40.Except, among them, Your chosen servants."
قَالَ هَٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ عَلَىَّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ﴿41﴾
Qaala haaza Siraatun 'alaiya Mustaqeem
41.[Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight.
إِنَّ عِبَادِى لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَٰنٌ إِلَّا مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلْغَاوِينَ﴿42﴾
Inna 'ibaadee laisa laka 'alaihim sultaanun illaa manittaba'aka minal ghaaween
42.Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators.
وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿43﴾
Wa inna jahannama lamaw'iduhum ajma'een
43.And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all.
لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَٰبٍۢ لِّكُلِّ بَابٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ جُزْءٌۭ مَّقْسُومٌ﴿44﴾
Lahaa sab'atu abwaab; likulli baabim minhum juz'um maqsoom
44.It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated."
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍۢ وَعُيُونٍ﴿45﴾
Innal muttaqeena fee Jannaatinw wa 'uyoon
45.Indeed, the righteous will be within gardens and springs.
ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَٰمٍ ءَامِنِينَ﴿46﴾
Udkhuloohaa bisalaamin aamineen
46.[Having been told], "Enter it in peace, safe [and secure]."
وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍۢ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ﴿47﴾
Wa naza'naa ma fee sudoorihim min ghillin ikhwaanan 'alaa sururim mutaqaabileen
47.And We will remove whatever is in their breasts of resentment, [so they will be] brothers, on thrones facing each other.
لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌۭ وَمَا هُم مِّنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ﴿48﴾
Laa yamas suhum feehaa nasabunw wa maa hum minhaa bimukhrajeen
48.No fatigue will touch them therein, nor from it will they [ever] be removed.
۞ نَبِّئْ عِبَادِىٓ أَنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ﴿49﴾
Nabbi' 'ibaadeee annneee anal Ghafoorur Raheem
49.[O Muhammad], inform My servants that it is I who am the Forgiving, the Merciful.
وَأَنَّ عَذَابِى هُوَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ٱلْأَلِيمُ﴿50﴾
Wa anna 'azaabee uwal 'azaabul aleem
50.And that it is My punishment which is the painful punishment.
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَن ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ﴿51﴾
Wa nabbi'hum 'an daifi Ibraaheem
51.And inform them about the guests of Abraham,
إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَٰمًۭا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمْ وَجِلُونَ﴿52﴾
Iz dakhaloo 'alaihi faqaaloo salaaman qaala innaa minkum wajiloon
52.When they entered upon him and said, "Peace." [Abraham] said, "Indeed, we are fearful of you."
قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٍۢ﴿53﴾
Qaaloo la tawjal innaa nubashshiruka bighulaamin 'aleem
53.[The angels] said, "Fear not. Indeed, we give you good tidings of a learned boy."
قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِى عَلَىٰٓ أَن مَّسَّنِىَ ٱلْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ﴿54﴾
Qaala abashshartumoonee 'alaaa am massaniyal kibaru fabima tubashshiroon
54.He said, "Have you given me good tidings although old age has come upon me? Then of what [wonder] do you inform?"
قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرْنَٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْقَٰنِطِينَ﴿55﴾
Qaaloo bashsharnaaka bilhaqqi falaa takum minal qaaniteen
55.They said, "We have given you good tidings in truth, so do not be of the despairing."
قَالَ وَمَن يَقْنَطُ مِن رَّحْمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ﴿56﴾
Qaala wa mai yaqnatu mir rahmati Rabbiheee illad daaaloon
56.He said, "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?"
قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ﴿57﴾
Qaala famaa khatbukum aiyuhal mursaloon
57.[Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?"
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍۢ مُّجْرِمِينَ﴿58﴾
Qaaloo innaaa ursilnaaa ilaa qawmim mujrimeen
58.They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals,
إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿59﴾
Illaaa Aala Loot; innaa lamunajjoohum ajma'een
59.Except the family of Lot; indeed, we will save them all
إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ قَدَّرْنَآ ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ ٱلْغَٰبِرِينَ﴿60﴾
Illam ra atahoo qaddarnaaa innahaa laminal ghaabireen
60.Except his wife." Allah decreed that she is of those who remain behind.
فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ﴿61﴾
Falamma jaaa'a Aala Lootinil mursaloon
61.And when the messengers came to the family of Lot,
قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌۭ مُّنكَرُونَ﴿62﴾
Qaala innakum qawmum munkaroon
62.He said, "Indeed, you are people unknown."
قَالُوا۟ بَلْ جِئْنَٰكَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ﴿63﴾
Qaaloo bal ji'naaka bimaa kaanoo feehi yamtaroon
63.They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing,
وَأَتَيْنَٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَٰدِقُونَ﴿64﴾
Wa atainaaka bilhaqqi wa innaa lasaadiqoon
64.And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful.
فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱتَّبِعْ أَدْبَٰرَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌۭ وَٱمْضُوا۟ حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ﴿65﴾
Fa asri bi ahlika biqit'im minal laili wattabi' adbaarahum wa laa yaltafit minkum ahadunw wamdoo haisu tu'maroon
65.So set out with your family during a portion of the night and follow behind them and let not anyone among you look back and continue on to where you are commanded."
وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَقْطُوعٌۭ مُّصْبِحِينَ﴿66﴾
Wa qadainaaa ilaihi zaalikal amra anna daabira haaa'ulaaa'i maqtoo'um musbiheen
66.And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning.
وَجَآءَ أَهْلُ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ﴿67﴾
Wa jaaa'a ahlul madeenati yastabshiroon
67.And the people of the city came rejoicing.
قَالَ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ضَيْفِى فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ﴿68﴾
Qaala inna haaa'ulaaa'i daifee falaa tafdahoon
68.[Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me.
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ﴿69﴾
Wattaqul laaha wa laa tukhzoon
69.And fear Allah and do not disgrace me."
قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿70﴾
Qaalooo awalam nanhaka 'anil 'aalameen
70.They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?"
قَالَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِىٓ إِن كُنتُمْ فَٰعِلِينَ﴿71﴾
Qaala haaa'ulaaa'i banaateee in kuntum faa'ileen
71.[Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]."
لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِى سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ﴿72﴾
La'amruka innahum lafee sakratihim ya'mahoon
72.By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ﴿73﴾
Fa akhazat humus saihatu mushriqeen
73.So the shriek seized them at sunrise.
فَجَعَلْنَا عَٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةًۭ مِّن سِجِّيلٍ﴿74﴾
Faja'alnaa 'aaliyahaa saafilahaa wa amtamaa 'alaihim hijaaratam min sjijjeel
74.And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay.
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍۢ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ﴿75﴾
Inna fee zaalika la Aayaatil lilmutawassimeen
75.Indeed in that are signs for those who discern.
وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍۢ مُّقِيمٍ﴿76﴾
Wa innahaa labi sabeelim muqeem
76.And indeed, those cities are [situated] on an established road.
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَةًۭ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿77﴾
Inna fee zaalika la Aayatal lilmu'mineen
77.Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.
وَإِن كَانَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ لَظَٰلِمِينَ﴿78﴾
Wa in kaana Ashaabul Aikati lazaalimeen
78.And the companions of the thicket were [also] wrongdoers.
فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ﴿79﴾
Fantaqamnaa minhum wa innahumaa labi imaamim mubeen
79.So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway.
وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْحِجْرِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ﴿80﴾
Wa laqad kazzaba ashaabul Hijril mursaleen
80.And certainly did the companions of Thamud deny the messengers.
وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْ ءَايَٰتِنَا فَكَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ﴿81﴾
Wa aatainaahum Aayaatinaa fakaanoo 'anhaa mu'rideen
81.And We gave them Our signs, but from them they were turning away.
وَكَانُوا۟ يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا ءَامِنِينَ﴿82﴾
Wa kaanoo yanhitoona minal jibaali buyootan aamineen
82.And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure.
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ﴿83﴾
Fa akhazat humus saihatu musbiheen
83.But the shriek seized them at early morning.
فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ﴿84﴾
Famaaa aghnaa 'anhum maa kaanoo yaksiboon
84.So nothing availed them [from] what they used to earn.
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَءَاتِيَةٌۭ ۖ فَٱصْفَحِ ٱلصَّفْحَ ٱلْجَمِيلَ﴿85﴾
Wa maa khalaqnas samaawaati wal arda wa maa bainahumaaa illaa bilhaqq; wa innas Saa'ata la aatiyatun fasfahis safhal jameel
85.And We have not created the heavens and earth and that between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness.
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلْخَلَّٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ﴿86﴾
Inna Rabbaka Huwal khallaaqul 'aleem
86.Indeed, your Lord - He is the Knowing Creator.
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَٰكَ سَبْعًۭا مِّنَ ٱلْمَثَانِى وَٱلْقُرْءَانَ ٱلْعَظِيمَ﴿87﴾
Wa laqad aatainaaka sab'am mnal masaanee wal Qur-aanal 'azeem
87.And We have certainly given you, [O Muhammad], seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Qur'an.
لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًۭا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَٱخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿88﴾
Laa tamuddanna 'ainaika ilaa maa matta 'naa biheee azwaajam minhum wa laa tahzan 'alaihim wakhfid janaahaka lilmu 'mineen
88.Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of the disbelievers, and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing to the believers
وَقُلْ إِنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلنَّذِيرُ ٱلْمُبِينُ﴿89﴾
Wa qul inneee anan nazeerul mubeen
89.And say, "Indeed, I am the clear warner" -
كَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَى ٱلْمُقْتَسِمِينَ﴿90﴾
Kamaaa anzalnaa 'alal muqtasimeen
90.Just as We had revealed [scriptures] to the separators
ٱلَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا۟ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ عِضِينَ﴿91﴾
Allazeena ja'alul Quraana'ideen
91.Who have made the Qur'an into portions.
فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْـَٔلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿92﴾
Fawa Rabbika lanas'a lannahum ajma'een
92.So by your Lord, We will surely question them all
عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ﴿93﴾
'Ammaa kaanoo ya'maloon
93.About what they used to do.
فَٱصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ﴿94﴾
Fasda' bimaa tu'maru wa a'rid anil mushrikeen
94.Then declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists.
إِنَّا كَفَيْنَٰكَ ٱلْمُسْتَهْزِءِينَ﴿95﴾
Innaa kafainaakal mustahzi'een
95.Indeed, We are sufficient for you against the mockers
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ﴿96﴾
Allazeena yaj'aloona ma'al laahi ilaahan aakhar; fasawfa ya'lamoon
96.Who make [equal] with Allah another deity. But they are going to know.
وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ﴿97﴾
Wa laqad na'lamu annak yadeequ sadruka bimaa yaqooloon
97.And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say.
فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ﴿98﴾
Fasbbih bihamdi Rabbika wa kum minas saajideen
98.So exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him].
وَٱعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ ٱلْيَقِينُ﴿99﴾
Wa'bud Rabbaka hattaa yaatiyakal yaqeen
99.And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death).
