Daily Islamic duas are short supplications the Prophet ﷺ tied to ordinary moments — waking up, eating, leaving home, and sleeping. Every supplication here comes from the Quran or from hadith graded authentic (sahih). None is invented, and where a report is weaker we say so.

1. Dua When Waking Up

The Prophet ﷺ would say this the moment he woke:

Arabic:

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur.

English meaning:

"All praise is for Allah, who gave us life after He caused us to die, and to Him is the return."

2. Morning and Evening Remembrance

Among the most beloved morning and evening duas is the "Master of Seeking Forgiveness," and the short protection dua:

Arabic:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-Sami'ul-'Alim.

English meaning:

"In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heaven can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing."

Said three times each morning and evening, it protects from harm (Abu Dawud 5088; Tirmidhi 3388, graded sahih). Reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas three times morning and evening is also reported to "suffice you against everything" (Abu Dawud 5082, graded sahih).

3. Dua Before Eating

Arabic:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ

Bismillah.

English meaning:

"In the name of Allah."

— The Prophet ﷺ said: "When one of you eats, let him mention the name of Allah" (Abu Dawud 3767, graded sahih). If you forget and remember mid-meal, say: "Bismillahi awwalahu wa akhirahu" (In the name of Allah, at its beginning and its end).

4. Dua After Eating

Arabic:

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَٰذَا وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi at'amani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah.

English meaning:

"All praise is for Allah who fed me this and provided it for me without any might or power on my part."

Whoever says it after a meal has their past sins forgiven (Tirmidhi 3458, graded hasan; Abu Dawud 4023).

5. Dua When Leaving the Home

Arabic:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

Bismillahi tawakkaltu 'alallahi wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

English meaning:

"In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah."

The Prophet ﷺ said whoever says this on leaving home is told: "You are guided, defended, and protected," and the devil turns away from him (Abu Dawud 5095; Tirmidhi 3426, graded sahih).

6. Dua When Entering the Home

Arabic:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ الْمَوْلِجِ وَخَيْرَ الْمَخْرَجِ، بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَلَجْنَا وَبِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَرَجْنَا وَعَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا

Allahumma inni as'aluka khayral-mawliji wa khayral-makhraj, bismillahi walajna wa bismillahi kharajna wa 'alallahi Rabbina tawakkalna.

English meaning:

"O Allah, I ask You for the best of entrances and the best of exits. In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and upon Allah our Lord we place our trust."

— Abu Dawud 5096. It is also Sunnah to greet your household with salam and mention Allah's name on entering.

7. Dua Before Entering the Bathroom

Arabic:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.

English meaning:

"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from male and female evil (devils)."

— Bukhari 142; Muslim 375. Say "Bismillah" before this dua when entering.

8. Dua After Leaving the Bathroom

Arabic:

غُفْرَانَكَ

Ghufranak.

English meaning:

"I seek Your forgiveness."

— Abu Dawud 30; Tirmidhi 7 (graded sahih).

9. Dua for Distress and Hardship

When something distressed him, the Prophet ﷺ would say:

Arabic:

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ، لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الْأَرْضِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ

La ilaha illallahul-'Azimul-Halim, la ilaha illallahu Rabbul-'Arshil-'Azim, la ilaha illallahu Rabbus-samawati wa Rabbul-ardi wa Rabbul-'Arshil-Karim.

English meaning:

"There is no god but Allah, the Magnificent, the Forbearing. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the Mighty Throne. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth, and Lord of the Noble Throne."

— Bukhari 6346; Muslim 2730.

10. Dua Before Sleeping

The Prophet ﷺ would say, as he lay down:

Arabic:

بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا

Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya.

English meaning:

"In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live."

— Bukhari 6324. He also recited Ayatul Kursi for protection through the night (Bukhari 2311) and recited Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas into his cupped hands, then wiped over his body three times (Bukhari 5017).

Building a Simple Daily Routine

You do not need to memorize everything at once. A realistic order:

1. On waking — "Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyana..."
2. After Fajr — morning adhkar and the three Quls (3x each)
3. Before eating — "Bismillah"; after eating — "Alhamdu lillah..."
4. Leaving home — "Bismillahi tawakkaltu 'alallah..."
5. After Asr — evening adhkar
6. Before sleep — "Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya," Ayatul Kursi, and the three Quls

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to say daily duas in Arabic?

Reciting the Prophetic wording in Arabic preserves the exact supplication he taught, which is best. But Allah understands every language, so if you cannot yet recite the Arabic, say the meaning sincerely in your own language while you learn — the intention and remembrance still count.

What if I forget a daily dua?

There is no sin in forgetting; these are recommended (Sunnah) acts, not obligations. Simply say the dua whenever you remember. Consistency matters more than perfection, so build the habit gradually.

Can children learn these duas?

Yes, and they are ideal starting points. Begin with the shortest — "Bismillah" before eating, "Ghufranak" after the bathroom, and "Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya" before sleep — and recite them together daily until they are memorized.
